Daiwa are world famous for their excellent reels,
and in the SS2600 they truly have a stunning little
reel for a number of situations.
The first thing that strikes you is the weight, the
Tournament SS2600 weighs next to nothing and will
beautifully balance with a small stalking or floater
rod, whilst not being too small for normal sized
rods.
The design and build quality of the casing is
exceptional, with no unnecessary bumps, lumps or
curves. All the metal parts are high quality, and
the moulded plastic is smooth with no burred edges.
The spool is forged from aluminium and it is ultra
lightweight. Line lay on the spool is exceptional,
with the spool tapered at 15 degrees.
But, the main selling point for the Tournament
SS2600 is one of the reasons many people purchase
Daiwa reels, and that is the
quality drag system. Operated by a front of spool
clutch, the drag on the reel is of amazing quality,
it can be wound up to rock solid and will not slip,
but it can also be micro-adjusted to suit whatever
setting you require without fear of slipping or
locking.
Whether it's for a floater rod, stalking rod or your
everyday carp rods, the Tournament SS2600 will be a
great servant for a long time to come.
TOP TIP: In order to keep the
clutch on your reels in a good condition, always
undo the drag when you store your rods. The drag
works by compressing washers together, if you leave
the drag tightened up it
forces the oil out from between these washers,
leading to a failing clutch.
