Venue File - Mario's Lake, Cobbleacre Lakes, Norfolk
Cobbleacre Lakes is a complex of five sumptuous
lakes with fishing for the pleasure and specimen
angler alike. For this review we shall concentrate
on Mario's Lake, which is the specimen pond.
Basil Hayes and Trio at 21lb 8o
The lake is well established and
surrounded with tree's and overhanging bushes. There
are two islands on the lake, which have both been
known to produce fish in the right circumstances.
Mario's is surprisingly deep, and depths down to 14
feet can be found just to the right of the small
island in the picture below.
The lake is around the three and a half acre mark
(guestimate), with a maximum of ten anglers allowed
on at any given time.
The lake contains a good head of Mirror's (to
over 30lb, including the lake record "Pistol" around
33lb mark), Commons (a fair few of these are in the
mid twenty bracket) and also some hard fighting
Ghosties including the legendary "Casper". There are
also catfish up to 30lb's, which put in regular
appearances in the warmer months.
There's everything you need at this place
including; toilets and showers for those looking for
a long stay.

Many of the carp fall to baits
fished in the margins, with the reedy areas obvious
holding spots.
Certain swims are always fairly
busy such as the Snags, The Beach and the Lawns, but
all the other swims can produce fish if fished in
the right manner. For example, fishing the far bank
swims setting up the rods far back and just poking
the tips over the edge and fishing in the margins is
a underused tactic that will produce fish.
Other well fished features include the gravel off
the stump in the Snags, the reeds near the Lawn
(fished from Caspers), and the snag tree hanging off
the larger island which is fished either from the
Lawn or the Beach opposite.
The pads in the summer can also hold a lot of
fish.
Mario's fishes well through winter, as long as
the food keeps going in.
