Venue File - Cranworth (Woodrising) Water
Meadows, Norfolk
Cranworth (or Cranny as it is known) is a favourite "runs" water in
the Breckland area of Norfolk. The lake itself is an oddly shaped
pit, starting of very shallow at the car park end, and with an
average depth throughout of around 6ft.
There is a big head of common and mirror carp in the lake, making
the place quite easy (and also very busy during the summer months).
One day in August 04 on there I counted 56 carp cruising the surface
of the warm water.
In recent times Cranworth has become a lot busier and there is a
bit of a battle for swims at times on there. The carp fishing has
reflected this with the previous form not being shown.
Many people use Cranworth as a testing ground for new rigs, bait
and methods.
The largest reported carp that I know of is a 28lb mirror, but
the lake has also turned up a tench over 10lb. It's possible that
the carp grow well due to the fact that there is a fair head of
crayfish in the lake.
With that in mind, it's worth thinking about the softness of your
baits.
