Taswood lakes is a super little complex situated
a couple of miles south of Norwich and just off the
A140 (see multimap link below). The fishery is very
well grown up and mature making it a great place to
spend a few days. There are 6 lakes on the complex
ranging from specialist coarse lakes, match carp
lakes and specimen carp lakes. The two specimen carp
lakes are the ones that this review will be based on
Heron and Broadwing..
Trio with the big common from Broadwing
Broadwing Lakes
Broadwing lake I believe is the oldest on the
complex, its around 3 acres in size which is quite
small, however the way the swims are placed makes it
so you always have a decent bit of water to
yourself. All the swims have many features within
them, mainly weed, lilies and some really inviting
overhanging trees.
Fishing on this lake can be
quite hard at times but with a multitude of both
twenty’s and thirty’s along with a lake record
approaching 38lb it is well worth the effort. The
stock contains some stunning mirrors and commons
which fight hard in the generally deep waters. You
do need to book up on this lake during the summer
months to secure a swim on Broadwing, however this
is not so as important as we approach autumn.
All in all this is a super lake if you like
somewhere that takes a little thinking about, and
catching beautiful well proportioned carp.
Heron lake
Heron lake used to be a runs water but after some
careful management it now contains some really
impressive fish, commons and mirrors both well into
the 30lb+ region. Generally speaking the original
lake (extended just recently) has a uniform depth of
around 3-3.5ft, there are a couple of changes
however not many.
The swims in heron are a little tighter than that
of Broadwing, however you do get some water and
features in every swim. Most of the fishing is up
against the numerous and vast Lillie pads that
reside within the lake, also the far bank along with
near bank margins and trees are always worth a rod.
Unfortunately due to the nature of the fishing on
this lake some of the carp do have quite a bit of
mouth damage, however there are still quite a few
lookers in there too.
As mentioned previously the lake contains a
decent head of both thirty’s and twenty’s along with
many backup doubles and singles.
The fish in hear do like a little bait so if you
are doing a night or two don’t be afraid to give
them some.
So there we have it, a brief review of Taswood
lakes, for more info just give the owner a call who
is very helpful. These lakes come highly recommended
from myself. They can be busy but if you choose the
times you go you can easily be the only one on the
bank.
